What is external wall insulation (EWI)?

External wall insulation fixes insulation boards to the outside of a building and finishes them with a render system. It improves thermal performance, reduces energy bills and refreshes the appearance — without losing internal floor space.

What is the difference between internal and external wall insulation?

External wall insulation (EWI) goes on the outside and is finished in render; internal wall insulation (IWI) is fitted to the inside face of external walls, usually as an insulated lining. EWI keeps internal space and handles cold bridging well; IWI suits properties where the exterior can't be changed.

What is insulated plasterboard?

Insulated plasterboard is a board with an insulation backing bonded to it, fixed to walls or sloped ceilings to improve thermal performance in one operation, then skimmed to finish.

Does insulation reduce energy bills?

Yes — reducing heat loss through the walls lowers the energy needed to heat the home, cutting bills and making rooms more comfortable and easier to keep warm.
